The Gooding Soil Conservation District would like to recognize Mr. Jack Verbree's efforts regarding conservation, aeshetics
and air quality. We believe that this will enhance and benefit his dairy operation, and the community. We hope
that more dairyman take note.
The Gooding SCD along with the Natural Resource Conservation Servicer would like to
help in anyway; survey, layout, windbreak and irrigation system design, ordering trees and the purchase of fabric mulch.
Please
give us a call at the office anytime the number is 208-934-8481 and just ask about farm and field windbreak, shelterbelts
and living snow fence.
The District relies heavily on its partners at the USDA Service Center for technical advice
and frequently work together with these agencies to promote conservation ideas or to construct demonstration projects. Examples
of this are the wetlands at Thousand Springs built to demonstrate the effectiveness of vegetation to remove phosphates and
nitrates from agricultural return flows, allowing cleaner water to flow into the Snake River built with an NRCS design. Another
example is the Southern Idaho Bio-Control Program that is under the umbrella of the Wood River Resource Conservation
and Development, also located in the USDA Service Center. The Wood River RC&D provides fiscal authority over federal
and state funds received to run the SIBC program. Over the many years of these partnerships, many conservation issues have
been improved in Gooding County.
NRCS staff includes Steve Thompson-District Conservationist,
Eric Moore-Soil Conservationist, Bob Josaitis-Range Conservationist. Ken Hasfurther retired on September 5th after 33 years
with NRCS as the civil engineer.
