It was Thursday September 24th that the Gooding Soil Conservation District hosted the Little City of Rocks Workshop for 5th Graders.  The workshop saw 200t students go from station to stataion they were as follows:  Paleontology to Archeology, Water Awareness to Geology and the all-time favorite - Wildlife.  The Gooding SCD has been putting on the Little City of Rocks Workshop for 18 years all because the SCD supervisors saw a vision and thought students would love to get some hands on experience of the natural resources, and they were right.!   Since that time, many different presenters from all the land management agencies have loaned their expertise and time to the kids, coming up with fun and intersting hands-on activities from grinding corn and throwing the atlatl to blowing up a volcano. Oh yeah, the good stuff!

This year Dave Frieberg with BLM was in charge of the exploding volcano;  Stephanie Olmstead with the North Side Canal Company orchestrated the student polluters using the Enviroscape; Valerie Welch and Steve Roberts with the Idaho Fish and Wildlife Service let his kids pet Wild Things; Annette Rouseau with the Hagerman Fossil Beds constructed a wooly mammoth (or was it?) one bone at a time and Lisa Creswell with BLM  gave the students the Native American's viewpoint.  Yes, there were Indians at Little City of the Rocks, and volcanos and cougars and at one time there was even water. Who knew!

The District would like to give Dave Freiberg a special thanks for finding funds to help with transportation to schools in a budget crunch.  Your Awesome!
